…some things I think you really need to know about me…
I’m a daughter of two of the most amazing people that I am privileged to call my parents; sister to one very special brother, who gave me the gift of believing when the odds are down;
partner wife!! to fellow who has taught me never to give up, and shown me what loving without condition looks and feels like; ‘mum’ to our two three!! four-legged ‘babies’ (Ruby a Red Cloud Kelpie cross & Zeb, a Maltese Shitzu, and Rosie the stray cat who lobbed up on our doorstep and decided to stay!); and a loved member of a wonderful home made extended family.
I began my working career as a Registered Nurse and Midwife, which to this day I love. Sharing the highs and lows, and being present in moments of peoples lives that strip them to their base emotions, is a privilege that I cannot adequately communicate with word alone. I’ve seen life, I’ve seen death, and I’ve seen a lot of what is in between; and the beauty of it all, has always astounded me. I’ve seen real emotion alive in so many moments of my working career, and not all of it has always been literally ‘beautiful’, but it has been wonderfully human. My eye has always wanted to capture these moments, and hold them forever, so none of us could ever forget. So time and space couldn’t weary the genuineness of that moment. It wasn’t until I picked up my camera again, after a long pause, and following a personal life changing experience of my own, that I realised that moment, that word alone could not describe, could be captured forever in an image, and that those images were important. Because those images help you to remember another time, another moment, in the past – and that those emotions and feelings were real. I realise, all to well, how fleeting life is, and how precious these memories are, and how sometimes all you need is to be reminded of it with an image. Because at one point in time, they were almost all I had left of a loved one.
That is why I love taking images. That is why images are important to me. They help me remember, and they help rejoice at all the beauty my little life holds in it.
